Millennials may currently be getting the majority of your advertising attention, but this won’t be the case forever. In fact, it won’t be the case for too much longer. Knocking on the door are Generation Z, and before you know it they’ll be the ones that you need to be focusing solely on in your attempt to keep your business on-trend.
These new kids on the block, also generally referred to as post-millennials and the iGeneration, are young people born in the mid 90s to the early 2000s. This means they’re now starting to enter the workforce and earn their own money, which means their buying power is now rising significantly.
If you want to ensure that your business continues to resonate with the young audience for years to come, you now need to be finding a way to appeal to Generation Z. For advice on how that can be achieved through marketing, be sure to read on.
Advertise on the platforms that they are using
How can you expect to appeal to Generation Z if your marketing campaigns aren’t reaching them? It’s really quite simple: find out where they are and take your advertising to them.
First and foremost, you should be willing to build a presence on Snapchat. As stated by Oberlo, Generation Z are keen Snapchat users because of the simple fact that they have spent all of their teenage years using this application on a daily basis. By marketing your business on this platform, then, you will be sure to reach the screens of your next target demographic.
You should also make it easy for Generation Z to find you. According to a survey conducted by IBM, a whopping 75% of this generation use smartphones more than they use any other type of device. This means that your first port of call in this particular instance should be to embrace the mobile web. Fear not, as this need not be a particularly difficult task — for starters, it simply means making sure that your company website is accessible via mobile devices.
Show that you have a purpose
Generation Z know more about the world than you probably give them credit for — in their words, they are ‘woke.’ They are very much aware of the environmental and socio-economic problems that are rife in the world today, simply because they can access and trade information, quite literally, at the speed of light through the use of the Internet. Throw in the fact that they have grown up understanding the trauma of 9/11, as well as the fact that they are already saddled with huge amounts of student debt, and this all amounts to Gen Z being incredibly aware of the way societies work.
Because Gen Z care genuinely about the environment, you have to show that you care just as much if you’re going to appeal to them. Showcase the fact that your business has a purpose other than just to make money. Showing that you want to change the world in some way will ensure that your core values align will Generation Z, and as a result your advertising efforts will resonate with them.
